Presumably the page was deleted on the grounds I just stated; "inappropriate" is a bit vague, but I'd say if they were a substantive contributor, that page as it was would probably be fine.

Joe, you are right. However, during the past weeks I noticed an increase of apparently academic users whose only contributions was creating a user page as self-presentation. I think we should create a new template to notify these users that Commons is not a social media site and that user pages are intended to be used by people who contribute to our projects. --Achim55 (talk) 07:27, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

@Achim55: Yes, a new template would be good. It should definitely be written in a manner that recognizes that these people are potentially good contributors if they work within the proper scope. Also, for anyone who holds an actual faculty position at an accredited university, certainly one correctly licensed (and correctly categorized) image of themself should be welcome, and we should tell them as much. But, at the same time, they do need to be told that writing a bio on your user page is only appropriate if you make significant other contributions.

 Not done I don't fully understand what is going on here, but at the very least I don't see any urgent need for administrative action at this time. Orijentolog

Reason for reporting: he destroys almost a dozen of gallery pages of places in Iran which were created by myself (instead of a gallery pages, he generates redirects to the category). I wrote, that his reasons are untrue and that they should be equipped with examples. I then reverted his changes, and he reverted mine without any comment. Feels like being in the Wild West... I already messaged Mateus2019 about this issue: User talk:Mateus2019#Cities with irrelevant images, as he's inserting irrelevant images which are not even inside the particular city, therefore confusing uploaders and other users. Additionally, the descriptions are often wrong, incomplete, or meaningless, and the galleries themselves are a total mess or/and tiny. I spent several years of organizing over 10,000 buildings and places in Iran strictly by precise administrative units, and he's illustrating cities with photos from the namesake or even different counties (!). And it's all despite the fact that by checking infoboxes or relevant categories he can find where they actually are. His edits are therefore superficial (bot-like) and the result is an utter chaos. I can help him edit the galleries, but insisting on his own mistakes (keeping irrelevant images) is not to be tolerated. --Orijentolog (talk) 03:45, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
