Right now, I feel like my closet is starting to look like a storage space for chunky sweaters. And why wouldn't it? It's freezing out! However, as cozy and chic as oversized sweaters are, I've been itching to switch up my winter style to tops that don't completely hide my figure.
When my editor showed me a pleated blouse from Walmart, I was hesitant. Could this $15 tunic show off the little curves I have and also keep me from chilling to the bone? The answer: Yes and no.

Why I tried the Fantaslook Pleated Blouse
As a millennial, I am part of the generation of the "going out" top. I also have my own specific classification for "office" tops, which I am always looking to grow. Although this blouse doesn't look like it fits my style at first glance, I was willing to give it a try — because who doesn't love an unexpected fashion surprise?
Why I like the Fantaslook Pleated Blouse
The puff sleeves are its best feature
I'm not necessarily a puff-sleeve gal, but, to my surprise, this detail completely makes the top. The "puff" is actually incredibly subtle; however, the little lift it offers elevates the style from your run-of-the-mill long-sleeve shirt to something more eye-catching. It also makes my arms look much more elongated.

It shapes the upper body
The front of the blouse features pleats, which not only act as a cute design, but also change the way the top fits the body. And it's not just my imagination; according to the brand, the pleats "give a slimming effect to the waist as it cinches it in," which creates a flattering silhouette. This was the first thing I noticed when I looked in the mirror, and now I wish a few of my other existing tops did the same thing.
I'm also a fan of the curved hem, which continues to lend to the elongating effect. The rounded out shape gives it a unique look against jeans or any other pant. But the style is versatile enough that I can get away with a French tuck, too.
What to consider
To really achieve that fitted look, I would consider going just one size down than you normally would. That's what I would do if I decide to order another color, just to really emphasize the tailored look the cinched detailing makes.
I appreciate the flowing fabric for the chic look it offers, but because it's not snug to the body, I recommend wearing a thin tank top or tee underneath. You'll feel every gust of wind or slight breeze otherwise.
